KLM The Mitzvot of Chanukah – Mastering Appreciation and Gratitude

Rabbi Asher Baruch Wegbreit – In this video, the Rabbi shows us how we can actually do something for Hashem (which seems kind of weird). We can “help” him by publicizing the miracle(s) of Chanukah by lighting our Chanukias (Menorahs). This lighting shows others that we are testifying that Hashem did this miracles for us. The next key the Rabbi reveals is we also need to understand ourselves that we are publicizing the miracle(s) instead of just lighting for lighting sake. So if we understand and we show others than we more fulfill our role in the Chanukah miracle(s) and our places in the story as well.

Chanukah Insights and Bringing Light into the Darkness

Rabbi Yitzchak Breitowitz shares many deep aspects of Chanukah and the way in which we celebrate it today.

Personal Thoughts: Towards the end of the video (starting at the 1:01:00 time mark), the Rabbi discusses the way we used to commemorate Chanukah (the military victory) closer to the actual miracle versus later on (and today of course) that we more commemorate the miracle of the oil. I find this transition very interesting – I hope you will too.

HISTORY OF THE CHANUKAH RECORD – Talmud on Chanukah

Rabbi Levi Y. gives us some scriptural sources for Chanukah (which is uniquely different than other Jewish Holidays due to it’s absence in the Mishna).

Personal Thoughts: I personally enjoy learning the scriptural sources for the Jewish Holidays – where they are discussed, what date they were written about in relation to the actual occurence date, and the thinking of the time of why they were treated in that specific way scriptually. The beginning of the video is a discussion on Chasidic thought but at about the 9:20 mark of the video it gets into the Chanukah discussion. Enjoy!

Personal Thoughts: This video really helped me appreciate Chanukah – not only for explaining how many mitzvot are within lighting the Menorah, saying the blessings, and even singing “Maoz Tzur”.
