Rabbi Dovid Orlofsky – In this video at the time stamp embedded in the link below, the following is said and why it is said: “…the Christian, the Moslems, and the Armenians all believe G-d created the World and gave the Jews the Torah on Mount Sinai. The only people who give me any trouble are the Jews…” Why is this? Because belief implies responsibility to keep the mitzvot (Kosher, Shabbat, etc).
Rabbi Trugman – Shares how the three weeks from the 17th of Tammuz to the 9th of Av is actually 22 days paralleling the 22 days in the Hebrew month of Tishrei from Rosh Hashanah to Simchat Torah. The first 22 days represent the harsh oppression the Jewish people have suffered under and what we can learn from that (the outline) and the second 22 days represent what we fill that oppression with/what we learn from it (coloring in).
Rabbi Lazer Brody – Shares about how to view and deal with difficult situations by moving over and letting Hashem run the World. By remembering all the minute details on something close (like our eye) and some far or big (our galaxy) and how this is under the purview of Hashem we are in awe of how things are how they are. Awareness = Aweness.
Rabbi Breitowitz – Shares many different historical events describing the five negative events that occurred on the 17th of Tammuz which is currently a fast day (this year observed on Sunday, July 13th). Rabbi David Kaplan – Shares about this past week’s Parsha (Chukas) and why the Torah makes such a difference between what Hashem wanted Moshe Rabbeinu to do to bring water from the rock (speak to it) vs the action Moshe Rabbeinu did to bring water from the rock (hit the rock twice). Why was this difference so important that afterwards Hashem told him he would not enter the land of Israel with the Jewish people? Rabbi Kaplan explains all the reasons in the video.
Rabbi Mizrachi – Shares the counter-intuitive view of effort expended is not necessarily proportional to additional results. Our trust in Hashem as the ultimately results determiner is the proper view.
Rabbi Alon Anava – Within this lecture starting at the 35:41 mark, Rabbi Anava explains the progressive strategy of the four historical anti-Semites as the Midrash explains: Esav, Pharaoh, Haman, Gog. Esav learned from the mistake of Cain who killed his brother (Abel) in the beginning of Bresheit (Genesis), Pharaoh learned from the mistake of Esav who wanted to kill the Father of the Jewish people (Jacob), Haman learned from the mistake of Pharaoh who wanted to kill all Jewish males, and lastly Gog learned from the mistake of Haman who wanted to exterminate the entire Jewish people. Gog wants to take the fight directly to Hashem (chas ve shalom). Gog’s path is playing out before our eyes today and Rabbi Anava shows specific examples of this in current events. Our prophets comfort us and tell us that Gog will not succeed in his plans.
