Listeners’ questions (Ep. 296) and The Shofar of Elul (Ep. 297) | Rabbi Dovid Orlofsky

Rabbi Dovid Orlofsky – In the first video answering listener’s questions, Rabbi Orlofsky expounds on the Rosh Hashana plan of Rabbi Salanter in how to make a change this coming year using the following formula:

  1. Ask yourself what is your life’s mission?
  2. Vow to make one small easy consistent daily change?
  3. Vow to make a bigger change but only for the ten day time period between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur?
  4. Write 1, 2, and 3 down on the piece of paper.

In the second video, Rabbi Orlofsky references the movie “The Matrix” to encourage us to not live a life of lies and self deception but to focus on what’s real because that is what matters most. The distractions of this World take us out of what’s real and sidetrack us towards regret and sadness. Pursue reality – pursue true joy.

KLM: L’David [Tehillim 27] A Master Course in Teshuva M’Ahavah with Rabbi Asher Baruch Wegbreit

Rabbi Asher Baruch Wegbreit – Shares about Tehillim 27 that we are reciting twice per day between Rosh Chodesh Elul and Shmini Hatzeret (about fifty days). This Psalm is a master class on teshuva from the perspective of Dovid Hamelech. It deals with the hardest thing to do teshuva on – man to man (as opposed to man to G-d). Why is this the hardest? Because one has to humble oneself in front of another.

Rebbetzin Rochel Silber Tehillim 51 2025

Rebbetzin Rochel Silber – Shares the importance of Tehillim 51 particularly here in the month of Elul. We can read this every night between midnight and dawn in the Tikun Chatzot which we say to speedily bring the Beis Hamikdash. Specifically Dovid Hamelech wrote this Psalm explaining his teshuva sinning regarding Batsheva. Additionally, the Rebbetzin explains that the pomegranates are in full swing currently in Eretz Yisrael and how this interesting fruit signifies the many mitzvot that Jews perform and how the stains created by this fruit symbolize how our mitzvot permeate all over.
